Today is day one of my gluten-free weight loss journey. This week I am focusing on cutting out bread and pasta, the first big hurdles and a good start. Resource info: Foods which can be eaten on in a gluten-free diet include: Fresh meats, fish and poultry Milk and unprocessed cheeses Dried beans Plain fresh or frozen fruits and vegetables Corn and rice Foods prohibited on a gluten-free diet: Any bread, cereal or other food made with wheat, rye, barley and oat flours or ingredients and byproducts made from those grains. Processed foods containing wheat, gluten-derivatives, or thickeners. These foods include hot dogs, ice cream, salad dressings, canned soups, dried soup mixes, non-dairy creamers, processed cheeses, cream sauces, and hundreds of other common foods. —— Celiac Disease Celiac disease is a type of gluten allergy that causes the intestinal system to react with difficulty to processing gluten. Celiac disease also makes it difficult to absorb nutrients. Celiac disease is also called sprue and gluten intolerance, according to Shomon. Celiac disease can have more serious consequences for the function of the thyroid gland if it goes undetected for too long. Hypothyroidism The most common cause of hypothyroidism is an autoimmune dysfunction, which attacks the thyroid gland. Cranberry gluten-free loaf recipe. Conversions – 225g = 8oz. (1/2 pound)or about 2 US cups Gas Mark 5 = 375 Fahrenheit or 190 celcius (moderately hot) NB: Make sure the batter is quite moist (gluten-free flours soak up moisture). At its best eaten warm or (after aa day or so) toasted. Although not bad on its own, cold. Use a sharp knife to cut it. Also, different sorts of gluten-free flours produce slightly different textures. Rice flour produces quite a ‘cakey’ mix that is better untoasted than one made with pre-prepared, shop-bought gluten-free ‘bread’flour (which tends to end up with a harder, more bready loaf that almost certainly needs toasting). Experiment.
